For Ben Dörr and Dörr Motorsport, the Nürburgring hosted the latest race weekend of the DTM. The 21-year-old McLaren Junior driver took to the track in the #25 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, delivering a strong performance, especially on Saturday.
Strong Points Haul with Fourth Place in Race 1
Ben Dörr concluded the first qualifying session in fifth position, securing an excellent starting spot. In the opening race, the Dörr Motorsport driver ran at the sharp end of the field on the track and crossed the finish line in fourth place with a gap of 14.569 seconds. This fourth-place finish earned him 13 championship points. The race win went to Matteo Cairoli ahead of Thomas Preining and Marco Wittmann.
Front Row on Sunday – Then the Pit Stop Costs Everything
On Sunday, Ben Dörr once again demonstrated his potential in the second qualifying session by securing second place and a spot on the front row of the grid. In the race he ran with the leading group and was the first of the top three to come in for the mandatory pit stop on lap 16. There, the right front wheel was not properly secured: back on the track, the McLaren went straight on at the very first corner and Ben Dörr’s race was over. He is classified 17th, 24 laps down; two points remained on his tally at the end of the day. Marco Wittmann took the victory in Race 2 ahead of Tom Kalender and Thomas Preining.
In his third DTM season, Ben Dörr now holds eighth place in the drivers’ championship with 92 points following the rounds at the Nürburgring. The championship standings are led by Maro Engel with 160 points, followed by Thomas Preining on 159 points and Nicki Thiim on 139 points.
